SUMMARY: Assists Office of Emergency Management (OEM) with administrative, technology, and general program tasks.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conducts research, develops strategies, and facilitates tasks associated with assignments.
  • Coordinates, maintains, and documents inventory of OEM supplies.
  • Facilitates operational readiness of Emergency Operations Center (EOC) technology and systems.
  • Maintains the OEM website, internal SharePoint, and other OEM data systems.
  • Assists with development and implementation of disaster preparedness training and exercises.
    Peripheral Duties:
    (List of duties and responsibilities which may be assigned to the incumbent, but these duties and responsibilities may be altered or modified during ADA accommodations.)
  • Proving support to emergency management programs and operational readiness.
  • Creating, printing, and filing basic and technical program documentation.
  • Assisting with development and delivery of public education materials and education.
  • Attending meetings and supporting project groups.
  • Participating in Emergency Operations Center activations, trainings, and exercises.
  • Performs functions as assigned in the City's emergency response plan in the event of an emergency.



    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Skills in word processing, spreadsheets, video conferencing, online content management, and basic office technology.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
    • Effective organization and time management practices.
    • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed based on project implementation and/or EOC activations.
      Qualifications
      • Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
      • Experience: Working or volunteering in emergency management, human services, public safety, public health, or other closely related field.
      • Or: In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
        Preferred Qualifications:
        • Associate degree or higher.
        • Personal or professional experience with disasters or significant incidents.
        • Familiarity with development of electronic forms and creation of educational and multimedia content.
        • Completion of FEMA Independent Study Courses IS 100, IS 200, IS 700 or equivalent.Licenses and Other Requirements:
          • Must have a valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to remain insurable under the City's insurance to operate motor vehicles.

            Physical Demands and Working Environment:
            Job involves desk and limited physical work, which may include standing for long periods of time. The position includes work indoors, outdoors, in the public, and at alternate City facilities. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds to waist level or higher.
